I’m studying and need help with a Chemistry question to help me learn.

The introduction should contain introduce the following points

  • What a manometer is and how concepts of a manometer are used in this experiment.


  • Appropriately reference the lab manual
  • Write any modifications to the procedure


  • Do the following instead of what is written in the “Results and Calculations” section in the lab manual
  • Assemble any tables and graphs
    • Tables and graphs should be labeled. This includes
      • A title
      • Each should be numbered
      • Graphs should have labeled axes
      • Appropriate units must be shown
    • Tables and graphs should look neat
      • Use computer software
      • Do not take a phone picture and paste it into your report.
      • The spreadsheet table to check your calculation is NOT the best way to present your data. Make your own table that has the important information from your experiment, especially the important results
    • Tables and graphs should be arranged in a logical order
    • Anything important should be easy to find. Don’t bury important points with a bunch of extra information.


Keep in mind that an alloy like the sample studied in this lab is a homogeneous mixture.

The lab manual gives you an equation that you can use to calculate the mass percent, but this equation is pretty specific to a Mg-Sc alloy. You may be given another mixture problem on a test/exam question. It might be better to approach the problem like the practice problems 1 and 2 below. In other words, do not use the equation given in the lab manual. If you do, then you must show how you derived the equation to determine the amount of zinc in the sample from the mass of alloy and the total number of moles of hydrogen gas from the reaction. It must be done without putting the actual mass of the allow or the number of moles of gas from the data. The derivation must begin with balanced chemical equations, the ideal gas law, and the 2 equations with 2 unknowns.
